September Update

Well, it’s been over a month since The Blood Moon came out and the response has been great. My numbers for my first month were a lot higher than I expected, which makes me incredibly happy and inspires me to keep on doing what I love to one day make a living from this. So thank you to those who bought my first book! (For those of you who haven’t, pick up your copy here.)

So what have I been up to in the last month? Well, August was my most productive month so far this year. I’ve written over 30,000 words and was even able to complete the first draft of book 3, The Harvest Moon. I’ve set that aside for September to allow time to separate myself from the story and approach the edits with a fresh pair of eyes. Plus, I’m busy with other stuff!

The second book in the Under the Moon series is called The Full Moon (for those of you who don’t already know) and is almost done! I just finished the fifth draft yesterday and only have to tie up one small subplot before I move on to the next phase of the project. I don’t have a cover for that book yet, but I should by October (hopefully). After the edits are done, I have to format it for print so I know how many pages it will be. That will determine the spine width for the cover design. Be sure to follow me on social media to see the cover for The Full Moon once it’s out.

I’m so excited for the release of this new book I can’t even describe it. The Full Moon centers on Josh and Chris’s Aunt Kathy and her marriage to Will. After writing this story, I’ve realized that Kathy is likely one of my favorite characters I’ve ever written. I can’t wait to see what happens to her and the boys as I work on the rest of the series.

The Full Moon will be up for preorder in November and will be released on February 6, 2016. It is a prequel, so it takes place prior to the events of The Blood Moon. (I just had to make it confusing, didn’t I?)

One of the other things I’ve been doing is putting together the audiobook for The Blood Moon. I’ve taken my time finding the perfect narrator and since this is my first audiobook, I want to make sure I get it right. I’ve received a few auditions and let me tell you, it’s a thrill to hear the words you wrote as a teenager spoken back to you as part of an audiobook audition. I can’t wait to hear the whole thing once it’s done. I have no idea when that will be, but I’ll be sure to let you all know when it’s out, just in case that’s your preferred reading method.

Lastly, I’ve put together a short story for the holiday season that is currently up for preorder. Basically, Snow After Christmas is completely different from The Blood Moon. It’s a holiday romance-esque short story that I didn’t expect to turn out the way it did. (Maybe it was the leftover romance sap that I had when writing Kathy and Will’s love story in The Full Moon.) It’s a way for me to experiment with other genres while I continue working on my series. If you want to give it a shot, it’s only $0.99 on Amazon.
